Please be prompt and meet your guide, Licia 15 minutes prior to any kayak excursion at Upstate Kayak Rentals, located at the Waterford Boat Ramp at Alcathy’s, atop Flight Lock Road in Waterford, NY.

Registration is required only for those renting kayaks and gear. If you have your own kayak and gear, we’ll just see you there!

This is a one way excursion and return transportation is NOT included.

The Waterford Flight is a series of five lift locks on the Erie Canal in Waterford, NY that lift vessels 169 ft. from the Hudson River to the Mohawk River, bypassing Cohoes Falls. The lift is twice as high as the Panama Canal Locks.You will travel approximately 1.5 miles and 2.5 hours, should you paddle the flight.

You’ll start your paddle at the top of the flight, and join others as you navigate through five locks. You’ll pass the Day Peckinpaugh, a 259-foot historic canal motorship before entering Lock 2, the first lock on the Erie Canal, and your last lock before emerging into the Waterford Harbor.

At the end of your paddle, you’ll exit the water right at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk rivers.

This is a one-way excursion and return transportation is NOT included. Please be sure to make arrangements to have a vehicle at both ends of the excursion.

At the end of your paddle, rentals should proceed to the end of the Waterford Wall and return rentals at the boat launch on your left hand side. Please be mindful and considerate of motorized vessels traversing up the flight. Thank you for paddling with Upstate Kayak Rentals!
